Gilmer tops the Fannin Rebels

The Fannin County Rebels battled the Highway 515 rival the Gilmer County Bobcats Monday, November 23.

The Rebels played well, leading at halftime, but Gilmer battled back to win the game 63-57.

Tucker Hanson led Fannin in the first quarter, netting six points on two, three-point buckets. Kaeden Twiggs notched his name in the scorebook as well, scoring two, two-point buckets for four points. Jordan Bennett dead-eyed a long range three ball to cap a 13-point first quarter for the Rebels. Gilmer was able to score 19 points in the first to lead 19-13.

Fannin erupted for 18 points in the second as Hanson once again drained two, three-point baskets from deep. Landon Norton tallied five points on a three ball and two-point basket and Twiggs scored two, two-point baskets as well as a free throw. Kaleb Green worked the paint and churned out a two-point bucket. The Rebel defense held up in the second as they outscored the Bobcats 18-11 and led 31-30 at halftime.

The Rebels continued their scoring streak in the third as Hanson and Bennett combined for 10 points on a three ball and a two-point basket each. Twiggs muscled in two, two-point buckets in the paint, and Norton rattled in a two-point basket for a 16-point third quarter. Gilmer scored 15 points in the third as Fannin led 47-45 to start the final quarter.

The Rebels scored 10 points in the fourth led by Twiggs’s five points coming off of two, two-point baskets and a free throw. Norton drained a long range three and Hanson scored a two-point basket to cap the scoring for the Rebels. Gilmer got hot and scored 18 points in the fourth as they reclaimed the lead and won the game 63-57.
