Football is finally back, and hopefully this time it will be back with full stadiums and less issues from the pandemic. It has been a long wait since the Bucs won the Super Bowl and Alabama added to their National Championship collection; however, it is here so let’s get ready for football!
As far as the Fearless Football Forecasters, Scott Ramsey won the title in 2020 amidst strong accusations from some panelists suggesting that maybe he did not make his own picks. Be that as it may, he did win the championship and will be tough to beat again in 2021.
Ramsey was quick to point out how dominant he has been the past few years by saying, “Last year was my second win in three years. It is clearly a dynasty. I look forward to defending and repeating as the champ. My trophy is on display in my office if any of my fellow competitors want to come and see what one looks like.”
Last year was difficult for all of the panelists, with games being canceled and sometimes only having 12 games to pick instead of the usual 16, but they made it to the finish line and are all looking forward to a strong 2021 season. The same group of panelists, Kevin Panter, Eddie O’Neal, Andy Whitener, Suzianna Pass, John Spargo, Brandon Holloway, and Jeff Grimes will be back for another year to try and knock Ramsey off his perch.
With the news that Texas and Oklahoma are joining the Southeastern Conference down the road, it shows that college football is changing quickly, and when you also throw in the new Name, Image and Likeness opportunities, plus the one time transfer rule, it may not be long before college football does not resemble the game we all grew up watching.
2021 will be a fun season in the high school ranks as Fannin County looks to follow up a great 2020 campaign where they made it to the GHSA state quarterfinals, and we will see if Copper Basin can navigate through a tough schedule that includes Fannin County, perennial Tennessee AA power Meigs County, as well as district rival South Pittsburg.
In college football, will Georgia finally bust through and unseat Alabama in the SEC, and will Clemson keep rolling now with Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville? Can Tennessee rebound from the horrible Jeremy Pruitt era with new head coach Josh Heupel? The great thing about this time of year is that you can hope all of those things happen.
Moving on to the NFL, can Tom Brady and the Bucs win another Super Bowl? There seems to be some teams who will have something to say about that including the Packers, 49ers, Chiefs, Rams, Browns, Bills, Ravens, Titans, Saints and Steelers.
The good thing is that the answers to all of those questions are right around the corner so buckle up and see what happens. Also, we look forward to everyone participating in the Weekly Football Picks starting in September. Until then, everybody finish up a great summer and we will see you soon!
