Fannin sets sights on region championship

The Fannin County Rebel football team continued their steam rolling of opponents Saturday, November 7, as they traveled to Summerville, Georgia, to take on Chattooga High School. The Rebels played well on both sides, winning the game 37-7, as their record remains unblemished at 7-0 on the season.

Fannin received the ball to begin the game as Carter Mann brought the ball out to the Rebels 34-yard line. Some great plays by the Indian defense halted the Rebels, as they punted back to the Indians.

The Rebel defense was exceptional, giving up only 108 total yards in the game. Fannin’s defense led by Micah O’Neal, was able to force a punt and get off the field as Fannin took over from around their nine-yard line. After a  few quarterback scrambles by Luke Holloway and a couple of runs from Caleb Postell, Holloway found Andre Bivens on a dart pass to give the Rebels a first and 10 at the Indians 43-yard line.

A few plays later Holloway found speedster Cohutta Hyde on a slant pass from four yards out for a touchdown. After the field goal from Jack Katner, the Rebels led 7-0 with 2:40 to go in the first quarter.

The Indians tried to go through the air after they got the ball back, but a Rebel interception halted the drive and put the Rebels at the Chattooga 25-yard line. The Rebels wasted no time, capitalizing on the turnover as Holloway found colossal big man Jalen Ingram on the first play who muscled his way in the endzone on a 25-yard touchdown pass. After the good extra point, the Rebels led 14-0 with 1:10 to go in the first quarter.

The Indians were able to retaliate quickly, however, as they scored on a 48-yard touchdown run with 11:55 to go in the second quarter to slice into the Rebel lead 14-7.

The Rebels got the ball back, but the Indian defense held true as they forced a Rebel punt. Holloway set his defense up nicely with a monster 66-yard punt that set the Indians up at their own two-yard line. Mason Bundy, Dalton Ross and the rest of the Rebels defensive line came to life, as O’Neal bullied his way in the backfield and was able to get a safety to increase Fannin’s lead 16-7 where the score remained until halftime.

The Rebels came out energized in the third quarter as the Rebel defense shut down the Indians to force a quick punt back to the Rebels.

Seth Reece was the man of the hour in the third quarter, as the junior scored three rushing touchdowns to put the game out of reach for the Indians. After a couple of big runs by Postell and Holloway, Holloway handed the ball off to Reece who galloped 19-yards to the endzone to increase the Rebels lead. After the extra point, Fannin led 23-7 with 7:14 left in the third.

After the Rebel defense stopped the Indians offense, the Rebels got the ball back and began chewing the clock and running the ball to the 27-yard line, where Reece once again muscled his way to paydirt on a 27-yard touchdown run. The Rebels led 30-7 after the extra point with 4:13 to go in the third.

After a scoreless possession for the Chattooga Indians, Seth Reece would strike again, this time from three yards out for his third rushing touchdown of the quarter.

After the field goal, the Rebels led 37-7 where the score remained until the final buzzer.

The Rebels remain undefeated at 7-0, and a win next week against Coosa would crown the Rebels Region 7AA Champions.

The Rebels will host the Coosa Eagles Friday, November 13, with kickoff time slated for 7:30 p.m.
