Fannin Rebels shut out East Hall Vikings

The Fannin County Rebels soccer team hosted region rivals East Hall Tuesday, March 10.

After a strong but slow start from both sides, the Rebels were able to get a go-ahead goal to claim a 1-0 lead over the Vikings and the Rebels held on for the win. Fannin controlled the ball for much of the first half, which destroyed the confidence of the Vikings.

Although the score remained 0-0 at the half, offensive juggernauts Andrew Jones, Hayden Lynch, and Andrew Harris kept the visitors on their heels.

As the second half began, goalie Chandler Bond continued to show his quality and skill by smothering the Vikings Efforts to score. Regulation time expired with a 0-0 tie, and the Rebels and Vikings headed into overtime. The Vikings played with a sense of urgency, but were unable to overcome Corbin Head, Hernan Mares, Michael Dillard, Samuel Dillard and Captain Tristan Cheves.

As time was winding down in the first half of the overtime period. Andrew Jones rocketed a pass across the face of goal, where it was met by sophomore Garrett Mervine who crushed the ball past the Viking goalkeeper, and ended East Hall’s chances of victory.

The Rebels held tight for a 1-0 as time expired. The Rebels are now  4-1-2 overall with a 2-1 conference record.
