The Fannin County Lady Rebel basketball team came up short when they faced Region 8AAAA opponent the Jefferson Dragonettes Wednesday, December 29, in the Kelly King Holiday Classic basketball tournament.
The Lady Rebels battled and kept the game close, but ultimately fell 64-44.
Fannin netted eight points in the first quarter, with Becca Ledford leading the way with four free throws. Reagan York was able to drain a long range three-point basket and Ellie Cook converted a free throw.
Jefferson notched 13 points in the first to take a 13-8 lead.
The Lady Rebels rallied to net 14 points in the second quarter as York led the team with five points on a deep three-point basket and a two-point bucket. Ledford found the bottom of the net on a long range three-point bucket, while Ava Queen, Ellie Cook and Courtney Davis each netted a two-point basket. Jefferson was able to score 19 points in the second to lead Fannin 32-22 at the half.
The Rebels rattled off 11 points in the third quarter as Ledford muscled in two, two-point baskets down low for four points. Davis nailed a three-point bucket, while Cook converted two free throws and Queen worked the paint for a two-point basket.
The Dragonnettes were able to net 13 points in the third to lead Fannin 45-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Davis found a rhythm from beyond the three-point line in the fourth, knocking in two, three-point buckets. Cook also drained a three and converted two free throws for five points to give Fannin 11 points in the fourth.
Jefferson was able to net 19 points in the fourth to win the game 64-44 over the Lady Rebels.
