Fannin erupts to top Towns County 12-4

The Fannin County Lady Rebels fell behind early, but battled back for a commanding 12-4 win over Towns County to start their season 1-0.

Natalie Herendon started in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Rebels, pitching five innings and striking out five Lady Indians.

The Lady Rebels out-hit the Lady Indians 7-3 as Riley Davis had three hits, and Jaylen Green, Herendon, Josilynn Newton and Zoe Putnam had one hit each.

Towns County batted in the top of the first and quickly scored three runs before the Lady Rebels could get off the field. Fannin County sliced into that lead in the bottom of the first as Davis singled, Jayden Bailey walked, and Green singled to load the bases for Fannin. Davis and Bailey went on to score with help from a Towns County error as the Lady Rebels crossed home plate twice before Towns County got three outs.

With the Lady Indians leading 3-2, both defenses were solid in the second holding each other scoreless. The Lady Rebels held Towns County scoreless in the top of the third, while Fannin exploded in the bottom of the third for five runs.

Herendon and Newton drilled a double to help Green score. Herendon, Newton, Chelsey Frye and Zoe Putnam crossed home plate as Fannin took a 7-3 lead over the Lady Indians.

Towns County tried to battle back in the top of the fourth scoring one run, but Herendon struck out a batter and Davis got two quick outs to get the Lady Rebels off the field.

Fannin continued their offensive output in the bottom of the fourth as Rachel Adams and Frye scored to give Fannin a 9-4 lead.

Towns County failed to cross home plate in the top of the fifth as the Lady Rebels tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth with Callie Ensley, Green and Herendon scoring to put the game out of reach for Towns County.

The game was called at the end of the fifth as the Lady Rebels topped the Towns County Lady Indians 12-4 to start the season 1-0.
