Fannin dominates Copper Basin

The results were the same when Fannin County and Copper Basin squared off on the basketball court for thee second time this season.

Basin’s Cougars received a rude welcoming in Blue Ridge Tuesday, December 17, as the Rebels poured in over 70 points for the second time in less than a week.

This time Fannin came out on top 73-31.

Fannin County controlled the opening tip, and Jack Sparks scored the opening points with a put back.

Dawson Pittman gave the Cougars a 3-2 lead on the return trip down the court when he hit a long three-pointer.

But paced by a trio of three-pointers from Hudson Ethington, the Rebels rolled off 25 points while holding the Cougars to eight first quarter points to take a 27-8 lead at the buzzer.

A tough Rebel defense again held Copper Basin to eight points as the second eight minutes ticked away. Meanwhile, Keaton Watkins and Kolton Kaylor each had six points to lead a 22-point Fannin quarter. At halftime, Fannin led 49-16.

The Rebels continued to widen their lead in the third period, outscoring Copper Basin 15-4 to take a 64-20 lead at the buzzer.

Watkins and Kaylor again led the offensive effort, this time with four points each.

When the game ended, Fannin claimed a 73-31 victory.

The Rebels blocked six shots and grabbed 16 steals. They controlled the paint, grabbing 33 rebounds. Keaton Watkins led the team with seven rebounds. The team passed the ball well with 16 assists on 32 made baskets. Tyler Blake led the team with five assists. Ethington hit five threes for Fannin.

Ethington led Fannin County with 19 points, followed by Watkins adding 14 points, Kolton Kaylor with 13 points, Rylin Davis and Matthew Ponton each with five points, Jack Sparks adding four points, Jasper Mealer with three points and Blake, Avery Angel, Reid Holloway, Kylan Dover and Brody Henson all with two points each.

Carder Lance led Copper Basin with nine points followed by Carson Parris with seven. Talon Smith tossed in six points for Copper Basin followed by Dawson Pittman with five, and AJ Pero and Drew Crowder with two points apiece.
