The Fannin County Rebels men’s basketball team started out great defensively in their preseason matchup against Habersham County, but ultimately fell to the Raiders 50-32.
Both teams were solid defensively to start the game, with Habersham leading 8-6 at the end of the first quarter. Kaeden Twiggs accounted for two of those six points on a nice alley-oop play. Kaleb Green muscled in two points at the post and Nicholas Arp was able to grab an offensive board and take it back up for a two-point basket.
Arp heated up in the second quarter, scoring six points on three, two-point baskets down low. Landon Norton drained a three ball from deep and Jordan Bennett fought his way to the free throw stripe, where he converted one free throw to give the Rebels 10-points in the second quarter.
Habersham was able to net 17 points in the second to claim a 25-16 lead at halftime.
Twiggs led the Rebels in the third quarter, scoring four quick points on two, two-point baskets. Gabe Walz was able to rattle in a two-point basket as well, giving the Rebels six points in the quarter. Harbersham tallied 15 points in the third quarter as they took a 40-22 lead over Fannin to start the fourth quarter.
The Rebels tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter as Luke Davenport heated up from beyond the arc, scoring two, three-point baskets. Twiggs got things moving inside as well as he scored four points on two, two-point baskets to give the Rebels 10-points in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders scored 10 points in the fourth as well as they topped Fannin 50-32.
