Dawson wins region game against Rebels

The Fannin County Rebels football team traveled to Dawson County Friday, October 25, for a cool, wet region rumble against the Tigers.

Fannin faced a slew of injuries in the North Hall game the previous Friday and the lack of depth took its toll on the Rebels.

Fannin played well, but Dawson was able to come away with a 51-7 win over Fannin.

Dawson County won the toss and elected to kick the ball to the Rebels to start the game. A touchback on the kickoff put the ball at the Rebels’ 25-yard line as the Rebels set up shop. Two runs by senior running back Treylyn Owesnby, and an incomplete Rebels’ pass made it fourth and eight at the 27-yard line. The Rebels punted to the Tigers as the Rebel defense took the field.

Jakob Tuggle came up big for the Rebels making some big stops, as well as Logan Long, Dalton Ross and Micah O’Neal.

The Tigers were able to draw blood first however, on a one yard touchdown run. After the good extra point, Dawson led Fannin 7-0 with 6:35 to go in the first quarter.

The Rebels got the ball back and answered quickly as senior running back Will Mosley broke off a 77-yard run to put the ball at the Tiger’s one yard line. Owensby punched it in the next play and after the good extra point by senior kicker Sarah Sosebee, the game was tied 7-7 with 5:23 to go in the first.

The Tigers got the ball at their own 35-yard line and quickly got into Rebels territory, scoring on a 50-yard touchdown grab. After the extra point Dawson led 14-7 with 4:08 to go in the first quarter.

The Rebels got the ball back but could not move the sticks as they punted back to the Tigers. The Tigers were later able to punch it in from seven yards out and after the point after led 21-7 with 2:50 to go in the first. The Rebels got the ball back as junior quarterback Luke Holloway went through the air and found JoJo Goodwin for a four yard pass.

Owensby and Holloway then tried to gain yards on the ground, but were unsuccessful as the Rebels punted back to the Tigers. The Tigers scored quickly on a 46-yard touchdown strike and after the extra point led 28-7. The Tigers were able to score one more time in the first half as they went to the locker room with a 35-7 lead.

Dawson got the ball to start the third quarter and the Tigers were able to score. After the good extra point the Tigers led 42-7.

Dawson was able to find the endzone one more time in the third quarter to make it 48-7 after a missed extra point.

The Rebels could not cross the goal line in the fourth, but wideout Seth Reece exploded for the Rebel offense catching almost everything thrown in his direction.

Dawson County was able to score one time in the fourth, and after the extra point led 51-7 where the score remained until the final buzzer.
