Cougars work prepare for season opener

The Copper Basin Cougars traveled to Sweetwater for a preseason scrimmage Friday, August 5.

With only two weeks left before the Cougars open up for real against Polk County in Benton, this was a great opportunity to work on all phases of the game and see what areas need more work and what areas are where they should be this time of year.

Head Coach Chad Grabowski was pleased coming out of the scrimmage saying, “We improved in some areas and saw some things that we need to keep and things we need to get rid of. I really liked the way the defense played and rallied to the ball against Sweetwater.  If we can continue to improve on that, we will be a really good defensive team. Offensively, we saw success in the passing game and need to continue to open up the run with the pass this year.”

The Cougars will take part in a ten-team jamboree at Polk County High School Friday, August 12, at 6:30 p.m.  against Wartburg Central for their final tuneup before the 2022 season gets kicked off the following week.
