On day two of the ETC Tournament, the Copper Basin Cougars matched up against Pickens County Monday, November 21, in Ellijay. Basin played hard, but fell behind early and played catch up the rest of the game, ultimately falling to the Dragons 67-26.
Justus Hamby came out firing from the tipoff, draining two three-pointers, but the Cougars fell behind 18-6 after the first quarter.
Copper Basin’s offense picked up in the second quarter, led by Talon Smith’s three-pointer and another bucket. Kelle Shroth also had a three-pointer. Reece Parris picked up a bucket and Hamby added a free throw, but the Dragons extended their lead to 36-17 at the half.
The third quarter was low scoring by both teams, with the Cougars only managing a three-point play by Hamby, but Pickens only scored ten points themselves, however, they increased their lead to 46-20 heading into the final quarter.
Pickens’ offense picked back up in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Cougars 21-6. Connor Kimsey got in the scoring, hitting two free throws and Parris added a three-point play. Smith chipped in another free throw, but Pickens’ lead was too much to overcome, as the Cougars fell 67-26.
