The Copper Basin High School Cougar basketball lost a close one 57-56 Tuesday, December 14, when they battled the Bradley Knights.
Both teams battled for all four quarters, with no one pulling too far ahead. Copper Basin scored nine points in the first quarter with Connor Kimsey leading the Cougars with four points on two, two-point floaters. Joe Boggs worked the paint to churn out a two point basket and a free throw, while AJ Fitchett and Chase Hyatt converted a free throw each. Bradley Knights netted 10 points in the first to take a 10-9 lead.
The Cougars cut into the Knights lead in the second quarter, outscoring Bradley 15-14. Evan Bobo led Copper Basin in the second with seven points on a three ball, two-point basket and two free throws.
Reese Parris rattled in two, two-point baskets, while Kimsey and Boggs netted a two-point basket each.
The effort from Copper Basin was enough to tie the game 24-24 heading into halftime.
The Cougars came out in the third quarter with Boggs leading the way, churning out five points in the paint on a two-point basket and three free throws.
Parris found the bottom of the net on a deep three ball and Kimsey was able to get a contested two-point bucket to drop, as well as convert a free throw for three points.
The Cougars scored 11 points in the quarter, but the Bradley Knights were able to regain a 41-35 lead after scoring 17 points in the third quarter.
Copper Basin erupted in the fourth quarter to score 15 points with Kimsey muscling in six points on two, two-point buckets and two free throws. Hyatt was a force down low as well, getting two, two-point baskets to drop for four points.
Ethan Queen and Boggs scored a two-point basket each, while Cade Bigham converted a free throw. The Cougar defense allowed only nine points in the fourth quarter as the Cougars came back to tie the game 50-50 and send it to overtime.
Both teams battled back and forth in the overtime as Copper Basin scored six points. Kimsey netted four points on two, two-point baskets and Queen was able to muscle in a two-point bucket.
The Bradley Knights were able to squeeze seven points in the overtime to escape Basin with a 57-56 win over the Cougars.
