The Copper Basin Cougars traveled to Sale Creek Friday, December 6, to take on the Panthers in a district battle.
The Cougars started slow, but caught fire in the second and third quarters for a 72-36 win.
Copper Basin put up seven points in the first quarter as Logan Burkett, Tim Jabaley and Jacob Spurling scored two-point bucket each. Logan Tallent sunk a free throw to cap the scoring for the Cougars.
The Panthers put up nine points in the first quarter for a 9-7 lead over the Cougars.
Copper Basin erupted in the second quarter as Tim Fair scored nine points on a three ball, two, two-point buckets and two free throws. Burkett scored six points on a three ball, two-point bucket and free throw, while Tallent sunk a three ball from deep.
Chase Mickens converted two free throws and Jabaley converted one to give the Cougars a 21-point second quarter.
Copper Basin held the Panthers to 14 points in the second as the Cougars took a 28-23 lead over Sale Creek at the half.
The Cougars continued their explosive offensive output in the third as Burkett scored three, two-point buckets for six points. Tallent scored five points on a three ball and two-point basket, while Nate Deal and Fair scored a two-point bucket and converted two free throws each.
Evan Bobo drained a three-point bucket, while Mickens and Jabaley netted a two-point bucket each for a 26-point third quarter for the Cougars.
Sale Creek put up nine points in the third as Copper Basin led 54-32 to start the fourth.
Copper Basin scored 18 points in the fourth led by Deal, who scored seven points on three, two-point buckets and a free throw. Fair scored two, two-point buckets and a free throw, while Collin Lumburg worked the paint for two, two-point buckets. Tallent scored a two-point bucket as well to cap the scoring for the Cougars.
The Panthers scored four points in the fourth as Copper Basin came away with a 72-36 win to start 1-0 in the district.
