The Copper Basin Cougars hit the road and stepped out of district basketball play to take on Mountain Area Christian Academy (MACA) Thursday, January 25. The Cougars took control early in the opening quarter and led throughout, leaving with a 63-43 win.
Senior Justus Hamby came out firing in the first quarter, making three three-pointers to go with two two-pointers for 13 points. Junior Talon Smith drilled a three-ball as well, included in his five points, while senior Reese Parris scored four points. Sophomore Drew Crowder connected from behind the arc for another three-pointer and senior Avery Crowder hit a bucket for Copper Basin as they built a 27-2 lead by the end of the first period.
Avery got going in the second quarter, making three buckets and brother Drew hit another three-pointer as the Cougars took control of the game in the first half. Smith hit another bucket for Copper Basin as they took a 38-10 lead into the halftime break.
The elder Crowder stayed hot in the third quarter, knocking down three more buckets and freshman Cash Hamby drained another Cougar three-pointer. Junior Carder Lance added a bucket and Reese scored four more points as the Cougar lead grew to 53-26 headed to the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Basin kept their foot on the gas, and freshman Darrius Harris led the way with four points and Drew Crowder added four more points to his total. Another freshman, Carson Parris, got into the scoring, adding a two-point basket, as Copper Basin cruised to a 63-43 win on the road.
