The Copper Basin Cougars basketball team hosted the Chattanooga Patriots Thursday, December 12.
Copper Basin got off to a slow start, but came back in the second half to win the game 50-42.
Senior Jacob Spurling led the Cougars in the first quarter, scoring a three point bomb from deep. Tim Jabaley hit a nice two-point jumper and Logan Tallent worked the paint for a two-point bucket. Copper Basin scored seven points in the first as the Patriots were able to score 11 for a 11-7 lead.
The Cougars caught fire in the second quarter, with Tallent scoring three, two-point buckets down low.
Collin Lumburg came in and was a force on defense, and also rattled in two, two-point buckets in the paint.
Jabaley got two, two-point buckets to fall and Tim Fair scored on a two-point layup for a 16-point fourth quarter.
The Patriots put up 12 as the game was tied 23-23 at halftime. The Cougars continued their hot hand in the third as Fair scored seven points on three, two-point buckets and a free throw.
Big men Tallent and Limburg combined for four points in the paint with each scoring a two-point basket for an 11-point third quarter.
The Patriots scored nine points in the third as the Cougars took a 34-32 lead to start the fourth quarter.
Fair led the Cougars in the fourth, scoring nine points on three, two-point buckets and three free throws.
Nate Deal, Limburg and Mickens scored a two-point bucket each, while Tallent converted a free throw to cap a 16-point fourth quarter.
The Patriots were held to 10 points in the fourth as the Cougars claimed a 50-42 win and are now 8-1 on the season.
