The Copper Basin Cougars and Fannin County Rebels officially renew a rivalry that has not been played in 25 years, as they meet under the Friday night lights on August 27. Since 1982 the two teams have met 17 times with Copper Basin holding on to a narrow 9-8 lead in the all-time series. The Rebels look to officially even the series in 2021, while the Cougars look to cushion their lead.
The Cougars started off strong winning the first six meetings against Fannin, but the Rebels have closed that gap by winning the last four meetings with the most recent being in 1996 when Fannin won a defensive battle 6-0.
Fannin County Rebel head coach Chad Cheatham was on that 1996 Fannin Rebel team the last time the two teams faced off.
When speaking to the coaches in the preseason, they said that this game is great for both communities and are excited about playing. Both sides of Rebel Stadium will more than likely be full, so come out and support your team as kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
