The Copper Basin Lady Cougars hosted Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy Thursday, December 1, to start district play. Copper Basin got off to a crazy 37-0 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back, coasting to a 76-18 win.
Freshman Alexis Hyatt scored 13 points in the first quarter to jumpstart the Basin offense. Senior Sapporiah Ross and sophomore Zoe Green had six points apiece for the Lady Cougars as they ran away and hid from CGLA. Senior Brilee Harris and freshman Kendra Deal had five more points each, while junior Taylee Hall tossed in a bucket also.
Going into the second quarter with a 37-0 lead, the Lady Cougars’ freshman Cora Kimsey took over the scoring, putting up five points in the quarter. Deal continued her good night, adding five more points to go with Hall’s three as Basin took a 51-7 lead into the locker room at the half.
Deal and junior Riley Hall scored four points apiece in the third period as Copper Basin kept their foot on the gas. Harris, Hyatt, Green, and Taylee Hall all scored a bucket for the Lady Cougars as they continued to add to their lead after the third quarter, going up by a score of 67-11 headed to the final period.
Senior Destiny Pittman led the Lady Cougars down the stretch, scoring four points and freshman Riley Akens added three more. Harris added to her total on the night by scoring a bucket as well. Copper Basin was just way too much on this night, turning back CGLA by a score of 76-18.
