Copper Basin’s Lady Cougar volleyball team hosted arch-rival Polk County Thursday, September 14 at Copper Basin High School. The Lady Cougars dominated the Lady Wildcats, beating them in three sets. Copper Basin won the first set by a score of 25-16 and kept their foot on the gas in the second set, winning by an even larger margin, 25-13. The Lady Wildcats never had an opportunity to get back into the match, as Copper Basin drilled the visitors by a score of 25-15 in the third set to win the match in decisive fashion. Copper Basin servers had a huge night, getting a team total of 27 aces in the win.
Senior Nicole Marrie led the way with nine aces, while sophomore Alexis Hyatt had seven. Senior Taylee Hall had five aces, while seniors Sarah Collis and Riley Hall each contributed two. Sophomores Kendra Deal and Peyton Grabowski each served up one ace apiece. Grabowski also had five kills and two blocks. Hyatt added one kill, one dig, and one assist, and Deal had one kill to go with three assists. Sophomore Riley Akens had five digs.
Assistant Coach Amber Grabowski was happy with the victory and also talked about the atmosphere being great. “We had a great cheering section tonight, who really helped to rally the team! It was a great night! We are very proud of the positive energy from the girl’s tonight and their teamwork.”
