The Copper Basin Cougars baseball team struggled to cross home plate in their home opener Monday, March 15, as they fell to Towns County 11-1.
Dawson Worthy started on the hill for the Cougars, pitching two and two-thirds innings, striking out five Indians.
The Cougars out-hit the Indians 10-8 in the game, with Timothy Jabaley and Eli Patterson getting two hits each, followed by Worthy, Addison Hook, Eli White, Kade Foster, A.J. Miles and Easton Collins getting a hit each.
Copper Basin was held scoreless for the first three innings, while Towns County scored one run in the first, one in the second, and four times in the third to take a 6-0 lead to start the fourth inning.
The Indians crossed home plate once in the top of the fourth, before Evan Bobo, Isaac Deal, and Miles got an out each to get the Cougars off of the field.
White got the Cougars rolling in the bottom of the fourth as he slugged a double to left field.
White went on to cross home plate with help from a Patterson hit to put the Cougars on the board as they trailed the Indians 7-1.
The Cougars were unable to score in the fifth and sixth innings as Towns County scored once in the fifth and three times in the sixth to put the game out of reach for Copper Basin.
