Copper Basin downs Gilmer in ETC tourney

The Copper Basin Lady Cougars had a rematch on the first day of the annual ETC Tournament, as they took on the host Lady Bobcats of Gilmer County, Saturday, November 19, in Ellijay.

Copper Basin jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead in the first quarter as senior Sapporiah Ross had four points and fellow senior Brilee Harris scored three more. Two freshmen, Kendra Deal and Alexis Hyatt also had a bucket apiece as the Lady Cougars started off a great first half.

Harris added two three-pointers in the second quarter to keep the Lady Cougars rolling. Hyatt poured in five more, including a three-point bucket and sophomore Zoe Green scored four points to give Basin a 28-10 lead at the half.

Gilmer had a monster third quarter, scoring 23 points, but Harris kept the offense going with three field goals for six points. Junior Riley Hall chipped in another bucket for Copper Basin, but the Lady Cats had cut the lead down to 37-33, setting up a great fourth quarter.

Green delivered two huge three-pointers and Hyatt scored five of her 12 points to keep Basin in the lead. Gilmer made a late run, but the Lady Cougars held on for a huge 49-46 win to get the tournament off to a great start.
