Cole scores 14 in Lady Rebels’ 20th win

The Senior Night spotlight shined brightly on Lady Rebels Emma Buchanan, Callie Ensley and Emma Holloway, but it was  sophomore Albany Cole who stepped up to set the scoring pace with 14 points in the team’s 20th victory this season.

Senior Night was celebrated Friday, January 31, when Fannin County hosted Gordon Lee’s Lady Trojans, who the hosts handily defeated 60-31. Cole scored 14 points to lead Lady Rebels.

Fannin got off to a slow start, the Lady Rebels first score coming with almost two minutes gone in the game when Maggie Ledford drove the lane to put the hosts ahead 2-0. She repeated that performance to put Fannin ahead 4-0.

Two minutes later, with Gordon Lee trailing 4-2, Cole scored her first two points, which was followed by a three-pointer from Buchanan. That ended the quarter with Fannin up 9-2.

That changed in the second quarter, which produced the best for the Lady Rebels as they outscored Gordon Lee 21-12. Cole set the pace with 10 points followed by a pair of threes from Ledford, a three from Saidee Patton and two points from Reese Lewis. The second quarter performance allowed the Lady Rebels to go into halftime leading 30-14.

Avi Ethington came on to lead the third quarter with six points, and Buchanan scored her second three of the game.

Patton took over in the final eight minutes with five points, followed by four each from Lewis and Ensley and two points from Brooklyn Owenby.

As a whole, the team controlled the paint, grabbing 33 rebounds and stood tall, blocking three shots in the game. Lewis led the team with nine rebounds.

Behind Cole’s game leading 14 points were Patton with 11 points, Ledford with 10 points, Buchanan, Lewis and Ethington with six points each, Ensley adding five points and Brooklyn Owenby putting in two points.
