Fannin County Lady Rebels head coach Ryan Chastain had the look of complete surprise on his face Saturday afternoon, January 27, when Athletic Director Shannon York pointed him to the center of the basketball court.
There, with the hometown crowd at Fannin County High School cheering, Chastain’s wife, Amanda, and daughter, Ella Kate, waited with a plaque from the Fannin County Sports Hall of Fame. That plaque honored Chastain for his 100th career win at the helm of the Lady Rebels.
The victory came over the North Murray Lady Mountaineers December 12 when the Lady Rebels defeated their region foes 68-46.
Besides announcing the 100th win to the crowd, York remembered that within these victories his teams have appeared in the region championship, state playoffs, Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Final Four and state championship. Many victories came from those battles.
The players said, “Coach, we are so proud of you and happy to be a part of this great accomplishment. Thank you for your time and dedication to this program and to each of us!”
