The Fannin Rebels football team took a tough 24-14 loss to the Christian Heritage (CHS) Lions Friday, October 24, dropping their region record to 4-2.
Fannin received the opening kickoff, but the Rebels were stopped on their first offensive possession.
The defense forced a Christian Heritage punt and the Rebels took over on the 16 yard line. Again, the offense was stopped and forced to punt.
The visitors marched down the field to take a 7-0 first quarter lead.
The teams then swapped possessions again, before the Rebels marched for their first touchdown. the drive ended on a Bryson Cole run for six points and a Matthew Ponton extra point to tie the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter.
After another swap in possession, an interception stopped the next Rebel drive.
Christian Heritage marched all the way to the Rebel three yard line before being forced to turn the ball over when a fourth down attempt failed.
The Rebels took over but a fumble gave the Lions six points. The extra point was good, and the visitors led 14-7.
After yet another change in possession, Nate O’Neal checked in at quarterback. After an incomplete pass, he handed off to Cole who ran for 25 yards then again for 12 yards into the endzone. With Ponton’s extra point, the Rebels tied the game at 14-14 where the score stood at halftime.
Braxton Cheatham intercepted a pass to stop the next Lions’ possession. This set up a 36-yard field goal attempt, but the miss led to a turnover on downs.
The Rebel defense again forced a Christian Heritage punt. Again, the Rebels were forced to punt, and the third quarter ended with the Lions on offense.
The teams again swapped punts, but this time the visitors drove down the field to take a 21-14 lead. The Lions would eventually and a field goal to extend their lead to 24-14.
The Rebels will travel to Gordon Lee High School this Friday night to play their last regular season game and final region game to determine their seeding in the GHSA A D1 Region 7 playoffs.
