This year’s Bigfoot Boogie in the twin cities of McCaysville and Copperhill welcomed athletes from the Kyle Pease Foundation (KPF).
The foundation empowers individuals with disabilities, providing the athletes inclusive sports experiences. For the Boogie, in-chair athletes were paired with push-assist volunteers to promote teamwork, awareness and community inclusion, Race Director Matt Cole explained.
KPF athletes and their support teams led the race, starting just ahead of the filed of 380 registered runners and walkers. This ensured “a safe and encouraging start for everyone,” Cole said. “Their energy, determination and smiles embodied the spirit of the Riverwalk Run Series. This was among our most memorable 5Ks,” Cole said.
