William Bruce Walden, of Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee, Florida, went home to be with the Lord November 14, 2021, at the age of 88.
Bruce was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Hilda; his parents; a sister, Carol Walden Lowry; and a daughter, Krista Lorraine.
Bruce is survived by his son, Bill Walden, and his wife, Kim, of Titusville, Florida; his son, Tom, of Tallahassee; and his grandchildren, Billy Walden and Shelby Walden.
Bruce was born in Dalton, Georgia, to William Floyd Walden and Louise Taylor Walden August 31, 1933. He graduated from high school in Blue Ridge, served in the Marine Corps, and then settled down with Hilda to raise a family. Bruce worked for the State of Florida in Vocational Rehabilitation until the 1970s, when he went into full-time ministry in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Bruce left full-time ministry in the early 1980s and returned to work at Vocational Rehabilitation again until he retired. Bruce then went back into full-time ministry serving at Pisgah, the Rock and Apalachicola United Methodist churches until he retired from the ministry in 1998.
Bruce and Hilda traveled extensively until Parkinson’s disease made it impossible to travel. As a man with three master’s degrees, the inability to communicate must have frustrated him, yet he always had a twinkle in his eyes and a good attitude, no matter what the circumstances. Parkinson’s has taken him, but the family rejoices that his suffering has ended and that he is reunited with Hilda in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
A graveside service will be held at noon November 27, at Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road in Tallahassee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Westminster Oaks, 4449 Meandering Way, Tallahassee, Florida, 32308, a local Parkinson’s support group in your area or the church of your choice.
