Copperhill sets special meeting in January
Following the first reading of the amendment to the City of Copperhill’s Sidewalk Ordinance November 18, the second reading was tabled during a regular meeting Monday, December 16.
No public notice was announced regarding the ordinance, causing a delay in the adoption.
The amended Sidewalk Ordinance currently reads “Obstructing streets, alleys, or sidewalks prohibited. No person shall use or occupy any portion of any public street, alley, sidewalk, or right of way for the purpose of storing, selling, advertising, or exhibiting any goods, ware, merchandise, or materials.”
In other matters, the city’s insurance company has insisted on constructing a partition wall to separate office clerks from the public for safety reasons and are accepting bids for the project until January 2.
A called meeting is scheduled for January 6 at 5:30 p.m. to accept a bid.
During the November 18 meeting, the city received an engagement letter from the Tennessee Water and Waste Water Financing Board stating that the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) will be performing a rate study to determine if the rates they currently charge are sufficient.
Since the city was once financially distressed, the TAUD must also check the capitalization policy, five year capital asset budget and review the leak adjustment policy.
The cost for all this is $3,000, the letter said, and will be paid from the water and sewer account.
Mayor Kathy Stewart is responsible for signing the letter and sending it back by February. The TAUD will begin making arrangements to get the assessments started once the letter is received.
In other matters, the city heard from the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity about fair housing laws in correspondence to their Community Block Development Grant.
Additionally, city officials announced that a quick claim deed for the ballpark property located on West Tennessee Avenue is in the works.
