GDNR to host “Becoming an Outdoors Woman”

Katie McCollum with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be presenting “Becoming an Outdoors Woman” Saturday, January 11, during the Blue Ridge Mountain Trout Unlimited (BRMTU) meeting at Faith Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m.

Program Coordinator Katie McCollum said, “BOW (Becoming an Outdoors Woman) workshops focus on learning outdoor skills in a safe and structured environment, giving women from all backgrounds the chance to learn outdoor skills in a positive, non-competitive atmosphere where they can feel confident and have fun. Available class activities will include shooting, fishing, camping, photography, wilderness survival and more.”

McCollum has a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology from the University of Georgia as well as a Master’s degree in wildlife ecology from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. She has been working in the wildlife field for eight years and enjoys providing opportunities “for new audiences to engage in the outdoors in fun and educational ways,” said BRMTU President Sam Miller.
