The Georgia Farm Bureau is looking for high school aged artists and middle school aged writers to compete for cash prizes.
Each contest is open for those enrolled in public, private or home schools. Contestants must enter in either the county they live or the county they attend school only.
The state winner of the Farm Bureau Art Contest will be awarded a $250 cash prize, the two runners-up will receive $150, and the district winner will get $100.
High School artists are asked to submit drawings of graphite, charcoal, pastel, chalk, colored pencil, pen and ink, ballpoint pen or anything appropriate for printing on 8.5 inch by 11 inch white paper in the colors black, white and gray.
Additionally, the drawings must represent modern agriculture found in Fannin County or Georgia as a whole.
The Farm Bureau Art Contest encourages students to explore Georgia agriculture in a creative way while bringing awareness of the contributions agriculture makes to their lives.
The state winner of the Farm Bureau Essay Contest will be awarded $150 cash and the district winner will receive $100.
Entries will be judged on how well the topic was addressed, grammar, and use of primary and secondary sources of research referenced.
Essays must “describe the relationship between farmers and natural resources.”
Fannin County Farm Bureau President Tom Hamby said, “By participating in the annual Farm Bureau Middle School Essay Contest, we hope students will learn how important natural resources, like water and healthy soil, are for farmers and how farmers conserve the natural resources on their farms.”
An official entry form, for both contests, are available by contacting the Fannin Farm Bureau office, and all entries must be submitted by February 14.
Contact the Fannin County Farm Bureau at 706-374-5967 for more information on the contests or to enter.
