Fannin County Public Library (FCPL) is accepting historic photographs as part of the Fannin County Historic Photographic Digitization Project.
Anyone with photos pertaining to Fannin County history is encouraged to make an appointment to have the photo digitized.
Folks will be asked the who, what, when and where of their photo during appointments. Library Manager Vanessa Pittman said whoever brings in photographs must be the owners of the photo to avoid copyright infringements. Those submitting pictures will be asked to fill out a permission form indicating they are the owners. She added that anything before 1924 should be free of copyrights.
It is important to note that the digitization process does not restore photographs. FCPL has the right to refuse any submissions.
As of now, the library has many photos pertaining to the entity itself and are working toward acquiring more photos from other institutions such as the Baugh House.
Pictures will be sent to Georgia Home Place to be uploaded into a public database to be used for research and other informational purposes.
The project is on going, was initiated in April, and is in cooperation with Georgia Home Place and The Virtual Library of Georgia.
Set up an appointment to submit photos by calling the library at 706-632-5263.
