Family Connection serves 3,709 people during December, November

The Family Connection Food Pantry served more people throughout the months of November and December than ever before.

3,709 people received food from the pantry during those two months, which is an 8% increase from the same period in 2018.

Executive Director Sherry Morris said, “Thanks to the tremendous support we receive from Feed Fannin and our other community partners, we were able to provide food to these clients. These numbers show there are still hungry and needy folk in Fannin County.”

In the 2018 fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 31, the pantry served 17,113 clients. The 2019 fiscal year is currently in month seven and has already seen an 8% increase in the number of clients as a whole.

“We believe these increases are due to the fact that more needy people are aware of the Food Pantry,” Morris said. “We’ve also noticed an increase in the number of elderly using the services of the pantry. Despite the improved economy, there is still significant food insecurity in our area, and the Family Connection Food Pantry is very much needed.”

The pantry is in partnership with Feed Fannin, an organization dedicated to providing Fannin residence with nourishment, and President John Sugg said, “The numbers of clients using the pantry are still going up today indicating that, even in a healthy economy, there is still deep financial stress among many of our neighbors. The pantry and Feed Fannin are doing their part to assist our neighbors. The support the community has shown to our efforts is amazing.”
