  • The Humane Society of Blue Ridge cat of the week is Sputnik. She is a one-year-old domestic shorthair. Sputnik had a bit of a hard time getting used to her unfamiliar suite-mates, and although she does well with them now, she is truly over the moon when she is around people. She is usually the first one at the door in the morning, ready to happily greet her visitors. Sputnik is talkative, playful and enjoys having her tummy rubbed. She is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on her vaccinations. Learn more

    As part of an on going project, Fannin County Animal Control has been receiving donations in the form of dog houses. The houses will be given to anyone who is in need of a house for their pooch.

    In the past week, officers brought in 10 dogs with six reclaimed, one going to Doggone Rescue, three to Four Lucky Paws Rescue, one going to Atlanta Golden Retriever Rescue, one to DAR Rescue and one to the Humane Society of Blue Ridge.

    Animal Control Officers and volunteers alike hope folks may be willing to open their home and their hearts to the dogs in their facility.

    Community members are welcome to make item or monetary donations and may also walk dogs to help them get exercise.

    Pet owners should make sure to properly tag and identify pets to prevent them being picked up unnecessarily. It is also advised to keep microchip information up to date. 

    Hours of operation at Animal Control are Monday - Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the facility. After hours the officers follow up with community concerns and respond to stray dog calls.
