Traffic stop in McCaysville results in stolen vehicle, meth arrest

A traffic stop in McCaysville resulted in the recovery of a stolen truck and several charges against the driver.

McCaysville Police Officer Manny Patterson and a Georgia State Patrol trooper were watching traffic on Toccoa Avenue (Highway 60) along the Toccoa River when a white Toyota Tacoma drove by with no license plate.

The officers performed a traffic stop on the pickup at about 12:40 p.m. Friday, February 18.

When the trooper checked the driver’s information – Cecil Jesse Cable, 30, of 109 Haymore Farm Road, Mineral Bluff – it was revealed he had a warrant for a drug court violation out of Fannin County.

A check of the truck’s vehicle identification number showed it was reported stolen out of Gilmer County four days earlier.

Patterson called Detective Lieutenant Cory Collogan to the scene while he transported Cable to the Fannin County Adult Detention Center in Blue Ridge.

Collogan said a search of the vehicle turned up 58 new, small bags ready for packaging illegal drugs and an amount of methamphetamine.

Cable was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug related objects, driving while license suspended or revoked, and expired or no registration.

As of Monday, February 21, Cable was being held without bond in the Fannin County Adult Detention Center.
