Townhome rezoning back on council agenda

Expect to see the rezoning proposal of a 14.15-acre tract along Appalachian Highway (515) on the City of Blue Ridge’s January 12 Council meeting agenda.

Assistant City Clerk Christina Mortimer said that the developer, Johnnie Hastings of Integrity Development Group, LLC., decided not to amend his application after all.

Hastings had previously told the city that he wished to amend his plans, which would have resulted in him having to undergo the entire rezoning process again.

This was voiced by City Attorney James Balli during a council meeting December 8.

Once before, Hastings went back to the drawing board and refiled his application for the rezoning request of the property in October.

He had originally filed for the rezoning in July.

Since Hastings has decided to stick with the current plan, the proposal will now go before the city council for a final vote.

Hastings has proposed a change in zoning from General Commercial District to High-Density Residential in order to incorporate an 83-townhome community on the backside of College Street.

The Blue Ridge City Council meets the second Tuesday of each month at City Hall beginning at 5 p.m.
