Three people are dead as the result of a double murder/suicide at 243 Choctaw Lane in Mineral Bluff Thursday night, September 22.
Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Captain Justin Turner identified the deceased as Garrett Alex Warbington, 23, Sarah Jane Loudermilk, 22, and Guinn Warbington, 65, who was Alex Warbington’s father.
Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan confirmed Loudermilk was pregnant at the time.
The call reporting a murder/suicide came into the Fannin County 911 Center barely more than a minute before midnight September 22. Initial calls reported three people were possibly dead and a child was still alive.
The first deputy, who arrived on the scene within 13 minutes of being dispatched, found the three victims dead.
Turner said deputies believe Loudermilk was attempting to leave the residence at 243 Choctaw Lane with her five-year-old child.
Warbington used a .556 caliber rifle to shoot into Loudermilk’s vehicle, striking Loudermilk several times.
Guinn Warbington, who was found in the yard of the residence with a pistol in his hand, was apparently coming to the aid of Loudermilk and her child when he was shot by Alex Warbington.
Alex Warbington then turned the rifle on himself, taking his own life.
The scene had been discovered by a neighbor who lived in a camper behind the property and had called 911.
Turner said the child’s grandmother arrived to take the child.
At the time of the shooting, Alex Warbington was living behind the Post Office in Culberson.
According to Fannin County Sheriff’s Office records, Alex Warbington had been arrested on at least two prior occasions.
August 19, 2016, he was charged with aggravated assault and battery. At the time he was 17 years old, and the 243 Choctaw Lane address where last week’s double murder/suicide occurred was listed as his home address.
July 7, 2021, he was arrested for stealing car rims from Williams Tire in Blue Ridge. During his arrest, he confessed to stealing the barbecue grill from the First United Methodist Church in Blue Ridge. He was subsequently charged with both crimes. At the time, he listed his address as 266 Choctaw Lane in Mineral Bluff.
