Jacob Martinez Aguillon was held without bond after his arrest Saturday, January 14, on charges he killed two people in a crash on Highway 5.
Aguillon, 31, of 160 Mountain Creek Trail, Ellijay, Georgia, is charged with three felonies; two counts of Homicide by Vehicle in the first degree and Hit and Run, and three misdemeanors; Failure to Report Accident, Too Fast for Conditions, and Driving Without License.
Killed in the crash were Javier Yanez Gonzalez, 20, and Abraham Montoya Resendiz, 25, both of Blue Ridge, according to Sergeant First Class Jason Bradburn of Georgia State Patrol Post 27 in Blue Ridge.
Aguillon was traveling north on Blue Ridge Drive (Highway 5) near White Oak Circle in a red 2004 Ford F-250. “The vehicle was traveling too fast for conditions and struck a patch of ice,” Bradburn said.
Aguillon lost control and crossed the centerline, traveling off the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree on its passenger side and came to rest on its top down an embankment.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Aguillon, who sustained minor injuries, fled the scene after the crash and was later located at a residence in Gilmer County, Bradburn said.
The suspect was taken into custody at 5:30 p.m. that afternoon, approximately nine hours after the crash, according to his booking report from the Fannin County Jail.
The crash occurred at 8:33 a.m., according to warrants sworn out against Aguillon by state patrol Trooper David Jones.
