A Knoxville man learned that if his idea of having fun was taking a swing at his female companion, then the Hometown IGA parking lot in McCaysville was not the place to be.
McCaysville Police Chief Mike Earley said officers received a call Saturday afternoon about a verbal altercation.
McCaysville officers Detective Cory Collogan and Patrolman Jordan Wright had transported two subjects to the Fannin County Detention Center and were unable to respond.
So Earley, off duty at the time, went to the scene in his private vehicle.
When he arrived, the police chief said he saw the suspect, John William Manning III, take a swing at a woman.
Earley said he ordered the man to stop. The suspect refused, and Earley said he “took him to the ground,” and held him until officers arrived.
Manning, 40, of 1449 Overton Lane in Knoxville, was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of an officer.
Earley said Manning told him he and his companion were just passing through and they had come to the area to “have a little fun.”
