The first annual Super Bowl for Girls Flag Football was held Saturday, October 30, in Lumpkin County, and the Fannin County Lady Rebels made history as the very first winner in the Mountain Athletic Conference sponsored sport.
Fannin entered the game with a record of 7-2, after defeating Dawson County in the semi-finals the previous week. The Lady Rebels would face off against Lumpkin County in the championship game, as the two teams had split their meetings during the regular season.
Ryann King got Fannin off and running in the first half with a 20 yard touchdown run to grab an early 6-0 lead only five minutes into the game.
The Lady Rebels struck again a few minutes later as quarterback Gracelyn Gray got the ball to Braylee Davenport, who then handed the ball to King, and she finished off the play with a 40 yard touchdown run, putting Fannin up 12-0.
Right before halftime, Gray got Fannin on the scoreboard again with a 15 yard touchdown run with 42 seconds left before the break.
Davenport added the two-point conversion to make the score 19-0, giving the Lady Rebels a nice cushion before halftime.
King added an interception with ten minutes left in the game to keep the score 19-0, but Lumpkin would add two scores late to cut the lead to 19-12, but the Lady Rebels would not allow them to get any closer, and became the 2021 Flag Football Champions in a hard fought battle.
Lady Rebel flag football team members are: Braylee Davenport, Selah Patterson, Kayden-Leigh McClure, Ryann King, McKinley Sandefur, Violet Miller, Bristol Falls, Bailee Rhodes, Khloe Kay, Hadlee Patterson, Gracelyn Gray, and Lynnex Patterson.
The head coach is Seth McClure and Assistant coaches are Kristin Kay and Grant Fitts.
