A warrant charging a Fannin County man with arson has been taken as the result of a fire at 3427 Sugar Creek Road Monday, October 12.
Investigator Gary Edwards of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office said Sergeant John Bramlett responded to a report of arson at the residence around 10:30 a.m.
When he arrived, he could see someone inside the mobile home, which was full of smoke.
Bramlett entered the residence to make sure no one was in danger.
The person he had seen had left through another exit.
Edwards said after he arrived on the scene, the person who had been inside, and who turned out to be the suspect in the arson, was located hiding nearby. He was taken to Fannin Regional Hospital with minor injuries not related to the fire.
A statement from the office of John King, Georgia’s commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, said state investigators discovered minor fire damage in the kitchen area of the 31-year-old mobile home and later ruled the fire an act of arson.
They are continuing to investigate the case and ask anyone with information to call the commissioner’s office at 1-800-282-5804. Callers can remain anonymous.
Edwards said Thursday that the name of the suspect is not being released because the warrant has not been served.
