“At no time was anyone in danger,” Dr. Scott Ramsey said after an airsoft gun was found at Fannin County High School (FCHS) last week.
Ramsey’s statement came Friday afternoon, April 14, after 18-year-old Christerfer James Henry Henderson was arrested early that morning by School Resource Officer Commander Lieutenant Darvin Couch.
Henderson, of 30 Ouida Street, Blue Ridge, is charged with two felony counts of Carrying Weapons on School Property or at School Functions.
One charge stems from a knife with a four-inch blade found on Henderson’s person.
The second charge stems from the airsoft gun. Couch described the gun as looking exactly like the Glock 17s carried by sheriff’s deputies.
Ramsey, FCHS principal, said the gun was found in the student’s car.
Couch said he received a tip about the gun late Thursday afternoon, April 13, after school was dismissed for the day. When Henderson arrived late for school the next morning, he was immediately taken into custody by Couch and taken to the Fannin County Jail.
Couch said, as per school policy, “anybody with a felony is not allowed on school grounds.” That policy applies to Henderson.
“This is something that is taken very seriously,” Ramsey said.
Henderson was released under a $1,000 bond following his arrest.
