Effective January 1, 2023, Robbie Stuart will assume his new position as chief of police for the City of Blue Ridge.
Stuart was sworn into position Tuesday, December 20, by Mayor Rhonda Haight.
Former Chief of Police Johnny Scearce has retired from the position after 31 years of service to the city, making room for Stuart to step into his shoes.
Speaking in support of Stuart, Haight said, “It was a monumental swearing-in ceremony since we have not had a new police chief since 1991. The council and I believe that Robbie Stuart is a great choice to fill Chief Scearce’s shoes. He possesses not only the mindset, but also the skillset to perform the duties required to excel at this position. Over the years, and especially while performing duties as interim chief, Stuart has shown tremendous insight, and I’ve been very impressed with his ability to work so well with the sheriff’s office and other law enforcement agencies, including the GBI...this is the type of leadership the council and I desire for our community.”
