Soap Box Derby Saturday

    The Kiwanis Soap Box Derby returns this Saturday, May 6, with gates opening at 9 a.m. and racing beginning at 10 a.m. at Fannin County Middle School.

    With a field on nearly 50 drivers, organizers say this is promising to be the biggest race in the local derby’s history.

    Organizers Mike Sullivan and Brian Higgins thank all of the sponsors, helpers, parents and drivers for making this event a success year after year and allowing them to give back to the youth of Fannin once again.

    Aside from a day of racing, there will be the “Touch a Truck” event in conjunction with the Fannin County Library. Several emergency response vehicles will be on display for children to explore. The brave men and women that operate them will also be on hand to answer any questions for the kids.

    Food and drinks will be available for purchase, however admission and parking are free.  “Bring a chair and sunscreen and get ready to watch another round of exciting racing,” the organizers echoed.
