Fannin County’s Shop With a Cop program needs donations as volunteers work to provide less fortunate children with a merry Christmas.
Becky Callihan, Shop With a Cop treasurer, said last week donations have been slow to come in this year, and COVID-19 and all the restrictions that came with it slowed the volunteers’ normal fundraising efforts.
Now, December 4, the special day set aside for children, is rapidly approaching and funds are desperately needed.
Shop With a Cop historically serves 80 children. Last year that total reached 87. The number volunteers are able to serve depends solely on the generosity of the community through direct donations and participation in the volunteers’ fund-raising efforts, Callihan said.
The December 4 event will include a meal for the children and a shopping trip to Walmart in Blue Ridge. The youngsters are accompanied by volunteers from the sheriff’s office, various groups within county government, and others on the trip designed to help brighten their Christmas.
Callihan said, “If not for Shop With a Cop, many of the children served would not have anything special to enjoy at Christmas.”
She said donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. Donations can be mailed to: Fannin County Shop With a Cop, P.O. Box 1706, Blue Ridge, Georgia, 30513.
