This just in: Fannin and Polk Counties will see an increase in ghosts, witches, princesses, superheroes, and more this weekend. However, do not be alarmed, they have been invited to attend Halloween Safe Zones and other events happening throughout the counties.
The Halloween Safe Zone candy walk in the twin cities of McCaysville and Copperhill will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Various downtown businesses will be handing out candy, and the Riverwalk Shops will be turned into “Haunted Halls.”
Deep Roots Orchard will hold a horror movie double feature of “The Blair Witch Project” and “Halloween” Saturday, October 30, from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. The orchard is located at 2984 Mobile Road, McCaysville.
The City of Blue Ridge’s annual Halloween Safe Zone will be held Saturday, October 30, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on East Main Street between Church Street and Mountain Street intersections.
Downtown Blue Ridge merchants will provide candy and treats. Kevin Panter Insurance, Blue Jean’s Pizza, Dairy Queen, Mountain Valley Bank, Town & Country Furniture, United Community Bank, Blue Ridge Methodist Church, and Blue Ridge Pharmacy will be continuing their tradition of drive-by trick or treating at their locations as well.
There will also be the annual costume contest beginning at 5:30 p.m. The categories will be infant to 2 years old, 3 to 4-year-olds, 5 to 6-year-olds, 9 to 10-year-olds, 11 to 14-year-olds, 15 to 17-year-olds, 18-year-olds and up, group and pet costumes (dogs and cats only).
After the contest, there will be a DJ and dancing.
East Main Street will be closed to traffic for the safety of the trick or treaters.

The Black Box Theater at Blue Ridge Community Theater will be showing Love & Death by Poe Friday and Saturday, October 29 and 30, at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m., October 31.
Ducktown will be holding trick or treating down Main Street Saturday, October 30, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
