Poverty simulation workshop planned

Fannin County Family Connection will host a Poverty Simulation Wednesday, March 16, at Fannin County High School.

The simulation will take place in the high school’s gym, 360 Rebel Circle, Blue Ridge, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The Poverty Simulation will allow members of the community to “experience what it’s like to live in poverty,” according to Family Connection Executive Director Sherry Morris.

Participants will be placed in a group, which will be their family for the four 15-minute weeks, and they will have to navigate life with limited resources. Afterwards, they will share their insights.

The event also involves volunteers as role players who will assist in the set up and dismantling of the stations, and Family Connection is actively seeking help.

Volunteers will need to meet via Zoom two days before the simulation and will be needed Tuesday afternoon, March 15, as well as all day Wednesday for the event itself. Anyone interested in volunteering or participating may sign up at fcfc1.org/poverty-simulation. There is no cost to participate. Questions may be directed to Morris at sherrymorris@etcmail.com or by calling 706-632-6063.
