Polk schools develop plan for dealing with COVID-19

The Polk County School System has devised a plan for students and staff that come in contact with COVID-19.

A student or faculty member that tests positive for the virus will be required to isolate for 10 days and remain fever free for 24 hours, without fever-reducing medication, and show improvement from symptoms.

Those who come in close contact with someone who has the virus must quarantine for 14 days if symptoms have not developed. If symptoms develop, one must follow the first procedure mentioned.

Anyone who wears a mask is not considered close contact and quarantine is not necessary.

Someone who displays COVID-19 symptoms but have a confirmed alternative diagnosis may return to school after being fever free for 24 hours, if symptoms are improving, and must provide written documentation from a licensed medical provider.

Student and faculty members who have COVID-19 symptoms, no positive test, and a negative test after symptoms onset may return to school after a fever has resolved for 72 hours and symptoms are improving.

Documentation of a negative COVID-19 test is required after the onset of symptoms.

Someone who has symptoms of the virus but does not get tested must isolate for 10 days and may return to school after a fever has gone, without the use of fever-reducing medications, and symptoms are improving.
