A Turtletown area man remains held in the Polk County Jail in Benton following his arrest on rape and other charges.
Joey Christopher “Charlie” Womble, 35, is charged with Rape, Aggravated Kidnapping, Tampering With Evidence, Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Appear warrants out of both General Sessions and Criminal Court.
Detective Cody Day of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a residence on Womble Road June 25 to a report someone had been assaulted.
They found the victim at a separate residence in Turtletown. She reported having been held against her will for a short period of time and sexually assaulted.
Day said he interviewed the victim and she was “taken to a safe place.”
Day then obtained a search warrant for Womble’s residence, where the crime was reported to have occurred.
Deputies located Womble nearby on a four-wheeler. He was arrested on Failure to Appear warrants for Driving on a Suspended License and Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia out of General Sessions Court and Failure to Appear in Criminal Court for Failure to Appear, Evading Arrest, Leaving the Scene, Driving on a Revoked License and Reckless Driving.
While executing the search warrant, Day said further evidence of the sexual assault was collected.
Day took the other charges against Womble the following day, June 26, and bond was denied that same day.
Day said Womble and the victim were known to each other.
