David Perdue warned a crowd of supporters, “Freedom is just one generation away from extinction,” when he brought his “Win Georgia, Save America” tour to Fannin County Wednesday, December 9.
Perdue, speaking outside Toccoa Lumber Mill, was quoting former President Ronald Reagan with the warning while stressing the importance of a victory in his U.S. Senate race.
Perdue is facing a challenge from Jon Ossoff in the January 5 runoff election. Early voting started Monday at the Board of Registrations and Elections office in the Fannin County Courthouse.
The Republican incumbent, Perdue, warned the crowd of plans by the Democratic party to defund police, get rid of the electoral college, stack the U.S. Supreme Court, and take away individual health care rights. “They will do this...if we lose,” he said, and stressed that once such actions are put in place, Americans cannot get the freedom back that will have been lost.
“I cannot let us lose this seat...We’re going to win this thing, but only because of you,” Perdue said.
Blue Ridge Attorney Harry Doss, introducing Perdue, told the crowd that Republican victories in Georgia’s two U.S. Senate races are the “last line of defense” for the party to keep control of the Senate and maintain balance in the federal government.
Sonny Perdue warned, “if we lose this race, you won’t see the same America we grew up in.”
A former Georgia governor and secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue told the crowd, “We need you more in January than in November. We just got to get back out (and vote).”
He encouraged Perdue supporters to go to the polls and “whip ’em like dogs in January.”
In the November General Election for Perdue’s Senate seat, Perdue captured 82% of the vote in Fannin County. “We need 90%” the crowd heard from the campaign.
Perdue was the top vote getter across Georgia in November, capturing 49.7% of the votes – 2,462,617 out of 4,952,175 cast – to barely miss an out-and-out win over Ossoff by less than 13,500 votes.
Ossoff received 47.9% and Libertarian Shane Hazel collected 2.3% of the votes to force January’s runoff.
