Incumbent Post 2 Commissioner Glenn Patterson easily swept every Fannin County voting precinct in his re-election bid. Voters returned the Republican to his Board of Commissioners seat, conquering Democrat challenger Larry Syputa 10,658 votes to 1,736 votes.
With a total of 12,394 votes cast in the race, Patterson won with 85.99 percent. (For a precinct by precinct of Patterson’s win, please see the chart on page A2).
The “unofficial and incomplete” election summary report, provided by Fannin County Election Supervisor Mary Ann Conner, showed 12,666 votes cast in the November 8 General Election. The largest number, 5,950, took advantage of advanced voting in addition to another 914 absentee ballots cast. Election day saw 5,802 persons at Fannin County polling places.
With 20,106 registered voters in Fannin County, 63 percent voted.
In the other two local races on the ballot, neither school board member Bobby Bearden or Mike Cole faced opposition in the General Election. Bearden received 10,951 votes and Cole collected 11,111 votes.
Fannin County voters stood behind Republican Herschel Walker in his bid to unseat Democrat U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock, supporting Walker 10,020 to Warnock’s 2,229. Libertarian Chase Oliver received 290 votes.
Saturday, Conner said preparations were still underway for a statewide runoff between Walker and Warnock. Full details will be announced in next week’s edition of The News Observer.
In the race for governor, Incumbent Republican Brian Kemp handily defeated challenger Democrat Stacey Abrams 10,736 to 1,795. Libertarian Shane Hazel received 89 votes.
Incumbent Republican Andrew Clyde, seeking re-election to the U.S. House from District 9, defeated Democrat challenger Mike Ford 10,452 to 2,051. Across the district, Clyde won 212,667 to 81,203.
State Senator Republican Steve Gooch, who ran unopposed, received 11,198 Fannin County votes and 79,506 across the district.
Republican David Ralston, seeking re-election to the State House of Representatives, received 10,982 Fannin votes and 24,852 in District 7. He was also unopposed
Conner said all the results are unofficial and incomplete until elections officials check and certify the results. That process was scheduled for Tuesday, November 15.
