Amanda King, with the Mineral Springs Center, was awarded the Dottie Adams Ambassador of Light Award August 9.
King attended The Gathering Conference hosted by the Georgia Learning Community in Helen, Georgia at the Unicoi State Lodge.
The conference is an annual event where people with developmental disabilities and people who support them gather to encourage one another to be ambassadors of light in their communities.
King was recognized at The Gathering for her volunteer work with animals and her ability to allow others to feel accepted and valued in her presence.
The 2022 Dottie Adams Award was founded on the commitment to keeping Dottie’s legacy alive. Her vision and dedication to led the Georgia Learning Community throughout their history.
King stated, “I like to make people feel happy and be there for the cats by feeding them, reading to them and loving on them.”
