Mineral Springs Center suffered a huge blow to the staff’s daily efforts to offer clients access to community activities through group and individual services when both its wheelchair accessible vehicles were totally destroyed Sunday, June 25.
It was on that day a devastating storm swept through the area, toppling a large white oak tree to fall on both vehicles.
Mineral Springs Center Director Robin Davenport said the vehicles were essential for transporting individuals in wheelchairs and in groups. Throughout the day, the center has four to five staff members on the road providing community access services to individuals served by the center.
“Those in wheelchairs are unable to leave the center for community services without a wheelchair accessible vehicle. It’s vitally important the vans are replaced in order for Mineral Springs Center to serve its clients,” Davenport said.
The insurance settlement will cover about 30% of the replacement cost of the two vans, Davenport said. Mineral Springs Center’s goal is to cover the additional $60,500 needed, and the community is being asked to help.
Anyone wishing to help reach the financial need is asked to send a check to Mineral Springs Center, Inc., at P.O. Box 28, Blue Ridge, Georgia, 30513; or drop off a donation at the center at 35 Circle Drive in Blue Ridge. “Please indicate the donation is for the vehicle replacements,” Davenport said.

Mineral Springs Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, currently serves 30 individuals. All donations are tax deductible.
